After a very difficult time for everyone involved in the wedding industry, we are sure we are not alone in being incredibly excited as wedding fairs are about to start up again.
Whilst we have all got used to Zoom meetings, both in our personal (“Move the camera down a bit Gran, we can only see the top of your head!”) and business (“Turn your microphone on, Dave – we can’t hear you”) lives, we all know that there is no substitute for meeting people face to face – even if ‘face to face’ may well be ‘mask to mask’ for a while longer.
For many newly-engaged couples, wedding fairs are the first step into the exciting and unknown world of wedding planning. Whilst wedding fairs have not been possible for so long, couples have been deprived of the opportunity to meet lots of suppliers at one time and in one place, and have been forced to make use of technology, as mentioned above. Whilst this has, of course, been better than nothing, at long last, visiting fairs and meeting suppliers will be possible again.
The fairs can be marvellous for helping couples figure out what they want, or, sometimes more crucially, what they don’t want! Weddings are evolving all the time, and as they do, traditional ‘must haves’ become ‘you can have if you want to but you don’t have to’.
One of the few positives to come out of the pandemic is the realisation by many couple that it’s their wedding so they don’t have to be browbeaten into doing things a certain way just because ‘that’s how it’s always been done’. They can seize the opportunity to embrace new trends.
One expected trend is that the intimate weddings which used to have a slight negative connotation will become more normalised, and you will no longer be expected to invite your annoying great uncle or your parents’ next-door neighbours from thirty years ago – unless you want to!
There will always be a place for long-standing traditions, after all they don’t become long-standing by accident. But like any other industry, the wedding industry is constantly evolving. So pop along to a wedding fair soon. Whilst you will no doubt be spoilt for choice with the range of wonderful options laid out in front of you, we think you will also be in for a few nice surprises.
